“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you.” |
—Colossians 1:9a |
Have you ever discovered something that was of such benefit to yourself, or those you love, that you wanted to keep doing it over and over again? Here’s one such activity of mine:
Before we were all huddled at home in fear of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, I greatly enjoyed hosting friends for lunch or dinner. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I regularly invited a small circle of close friends to join me for lunch after church on Sundays. It gave me great pleasure to share God’s bounty with them in this small way. I miss this time of sharing very much. I hope that in the near future, such a time will again be possible.
The Apostle Paul felt this same way about prayer. Please take note of what Paul wrote in Colossians 1:9:
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives…
What a wonderful gift Paul gave to those in the church at Colosse. Paul’s prayers stand as a powerful testimony of his love for the “Christ’s-ones” in the Colossian church—much better than hosting someone for a meal.
As we begin this new day, let’s purposefully determine to pray earnestly and fervently for those we love. This will surely be a significant evidence of our sincere caring. And, it will develop within us the joy of having something we can do that will benefit others and ourselves, as well.
